Team Leader

Dr. Srinivas Dharavath

Assistant Professor

Department of Chemistry

Indian Institute of Technology

Kanpur

Dr. Srinivas Dharavath joined the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur as an Assistant Professor in 2019, where his research interests focus on Organic chemistry, especially in energetic materials and medicinal chemistry field. Srinivas became interested in chemistry during his graduation looking at small drug molecules and natural products. Srinivas completed his graduate and postgraduate studies from Osmania University, Hyderabad and Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, India. He did his postdoctoral research at the University of Idaho-USA with Prof. Jeann’e M Shreeve and McMaster University-Canada with Prof. Jakob Magolan.

At his first postdoc at Idaho, Srinivas synthesized various small heterocyclic molecules with a particular focus on secondary energetic materials for defence applications. These molecules continue to serve as potential candidates in energetic materials. Srinivas hopes that the materials which he prepared having real-time use in the society. In his second postdoc at Hamilton, he synthesized various small heterocyclic molecules with a particular focus on bioactive compounds towards the screening of antibiotics, anticancer and anti-obesity. The few newly synthesized molecules had good potential for the given studies.

Srinivas loves teaching at the Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur. So far, Srinivas has published 54 research papers in reputed international journals from his Ph.D., postdoc and from IIT Kanpur as an independent researcher. He has received an award in his Ph.D. from Dr. K. V. Rao's scientific society in recognition of his research.
